Náhir Capêlo
Náhir Capêlo is a contemporary artist who graduated from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (2015-2018) and earned a Master’s in Fine Arts – Intermedia from the Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto.
Her work spans performance, photography, and installation, often exploring themes of history, memory, and cultural critique.
In 2017, Capêlo participated in a performance cycle by Hamish Fulton, organized by Mezzanine in Porto, marking the beginning of her engagement with performative practices.
Her presence in the Portuguese art scene grew through several exhibitions in 2018, including Do Not Touch Fresh Paint at Espaço Mira, curated by Juan Luis Toboso, and Playlist #25 at Café Candelabro, curated by Nuno Ramalho. That same year, her work was showcased in the XX Bienal de Arte de Cerveira, where she was part of a national exhibition featuring students from various artistic institutions.
In 2019, Capêlo participated in Da Utilidade e Desvantagem da História para a Vida, curated by Eduarda Neves for the Ci.Clo Bienal de Fotografia do Porto. Her contribution to this exhibition, focused on the relevance of history in contemporary life, exemplified her interest in the intersection of personal and collective narratives.
Through her evolving body of work, Capêlo pushes artistic boundaries, inviting reflection on the complex relationship between past and present.
