Younes Ben Slimane
Younes Ben Slimane lives and works in Tunis. He is initially an architect trained at the l’École Nationale d’Architecture et d’Urbanisme in Tunis, before discovering a vocation for contemporary art. By means of artistic residency programmes, such as Dar Eyquem in Hammamet, he embraces the philosophy and practice of contemporary expression.
Since then, he has been developing a logical artistic approach that he describes as existential. Using various mediums, he observes, analyses and is inspired by the lives and landscapes he encounters to create his work.
Jaou Tunis 2018 hosted his first exhibition “Ready-to-burn”. In 2019, he was part of group exhibitions such as “Climbing through the tide” at B7L9, “El kasma” during Gabes cinema Fen, “Homogeneus” at the French Institute in Tunis and at the Lala land gallery in Paris.
“All come from dust”, his first short documentary, was selected at Locarno Film Festival, was in official competition at Pardi di domani 2019 and won the Tanit d’Or at the Carthage Film Days.
