Nissae is a contemplative 30-minute video on the theme of rituals in a woman’s life. In an initiation quest two women, a guide and an initiated, pass through Moroccan landscapes realizing seven rituals. These rituals symbolize the stages of a woman’s life : my condition I am a girl, my sex I am a woman, my creation I am a house, my destruction I am a spider, my knowledge I am thinking, my all I am empty.
This video aims to translate an observation of the femininity in an introspective manner ; it’s about the self-construction which is not opposed to man but which ritualizes in the surrounding and determining society.
The production and art direction were co-directed by Zahra Sebti and the ceramist artist Charlotte Cornaton in 2012. The script, texts and the editing of the film was realised by Zahra Sebti. The composition of the original soundtrack was composed and recorded by a team of seven musicians led by Hamza Bennani Smires, Philippe Melnotte and Farid Bentchakal.
