At the invitation of La Condition Publique and Le Cube, Moroccan artist Ziad Naitaddi will undertake an artistic residency at La Condition Publique in Roubaix.
Through the lens of both avian and human migration, he will explore dynamics of movement and circulation across the two shores of the Mediterranean.
The new body of work developed during this residency will be presented in a solo exhibition opening on July 8 at La Condition Publique, in the Beaurepaire space.
For several years, Ziad Naitaddi has been developing Birds Airlines, a research project at the intersection of art and science, conducted in partnership with Le Cube and the Department of Biology and Ethology at the University of Vienna. The project examines the behaviour of migratory birds in relation to human migratory trajectories.
In Roubaix, the artist will extend this investigation by focusing on bird species found across the region, from the Opal Coast and the Marquenterre Nature Reserve to the parakeets that have made their home in the urban landscape of Roubaix.
Through his research and artistic practice, Naitaddi highlights the parallels and interactions between animal and human migration, as well as the transformations they generate within territories and environments.
