Le Cube – independent art room is very pleased to present the work of Tarik Hamchouz, as part of the project new generation, wich comes as a result of his residency at Le Cube – independent art room.
Graduated from the National School of Fine Arts of Casablanca, in 2008, this young artist currently lives and works between Casablanca and Benslimane.
For his exhibition atLe Cube – independent art room, Tarik Hamchouz engages in a reflection on frontiers and on numbers as a system of representation.
The representation of an infinite world of objects through a limited amount of numbers, of symbols, is considered among the greatest achievements of the human mind. It is difficult to imagine science, technology, urbanism, existence in general without numbers. They accompany us in our daily life and we are no longer surprised by their graphics, their presence…
By its formidable economic and social value, society imposes on us a coded ritual, composed of numerical combinations of which each formula defines an individual somewhere in the world: age, address, identity card number, passport number, vehicle registration number, telephone number, bank account number, barcode number of daily consumptions … etc.
With his project, Tarik Hamchouz invites us to discover a numbered world, where we live, without realizing it. The artist highlights the number and presents it as the main subject and axis of our life; he is attempting to translate our limited view and convert it into numbers.
The research of Tarik Hamchouz is based on numerous points of interrogations about existence through time, the definition of identity, calculated chance and all the objects and spaces that define us.
An encrypted vision on everyday life, a vision where everything truly matters; and the realization of the way a mere number can define an individual, vegetation, a story, an evolution, a life.
