L’Université Internationale de Gardiennage de Voitures / The International Car Guarding University (UIGV) is a satirical artistic program that simulates the existence of a private Franco-Moroccan academic institution whose mission is to teach and import the profession of car guard to France.
The project unfolds through a variety of multimedia and web supports, as well as through performative incursions into the real world. The UIGV claims to be the first private Moroccan university to be based in Europe, in Seine-Saint-Denis, and to offer all the disciplines needed to master and practice the profession of car guard, a precarious occupation widely practiced in Morocco and the global south. The teaching program, presented as innovative, is oriented towards technology and Web 3.0.
In his project, Ismail Alaoui Fdili adopts the codes used by supposedly innovative companies that base their business model on precarious work, often referred to as uberalized professions.
During his residency at Le Cube, the artist will undertake documentary research, culminating in the production of a film exploring the realities of working as a car guard in Morocco.
The project is supported by the Institut Français du Maroc and the Institut Français de Rabat.
