Jutta Strohmaier
In her work, Jutta Strohmaier is interested in the notion of space and focuses, through her photographs and video installations, on the relationship between images and reality. In particular, she explores how, with her projects, she can grasp independent realities.
“For me, photography is not only a representation of reality. On the contrary, I am interested in exploring the boundaries between acquired knowledge, traditional viewing habits and new perception systems. The coincidence of the presentation is of particular interest to me, as is the interpretation and new codes of technology. This creates a space of possibilities whose dimensions are not fixed. They are in motion and can constantly change their constellations.”
Jutta Strohmaier has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg and the Neue Galerie in Graz and her work has been included in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe including the Centro Ducale, MediaLab, Madrid; Arthall Gothenborg, Sweden; Arthall Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, Denmark; COCA Torun, Poland, Museum of Modern Art Moscow, the MEP in Paris.
Her video installations were part of the Mutations II, Moving Still exhibition series that was presented in Vienna, Paris, Luxembourgh, Berlin, Rome, Bratislava and Moscow in 2009.
Her video installations were also shown 2009 at the Photo Festivals in Athens and Toronto and 2012 in Ljublijana, Slovenia, Budapest, Hungary and Fez, Morocco.
Her work is represented in various national and international collections, both public and private, and she has received several grants and prizes, as she was invited to the IASPIS Residency in Gothenborg, Sweden 2001, as a visiting artist at the Illinois State University 2009, and the Djerassi Residency 2010.
