Laura F. Gibellini
Laura F. Gibellini is a process-based artist and researcher working between Madrid and NYC. Her drawing-based explorations reflect upon the intangible and thus the irrepresentable: air, water, time, atmospheric conditions and colors are at the core of her recent research. The possibility of imagining the irrepresentable is what she is the most interested in.
Laura F. Gibellini has been a recent fellow at the Spanish Academy in Rome (2016-2017) and an artist in residence at The Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity (Alberta, Canada, 2017), the ISCP (NYC, 2011),The Aldrich Foundation (Connecticut, 2010) and the Künstlerhaus Glogauer (Berlin, 2007).
Her work has been shown in international venues like Matadero (Madrid); CCCB/Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (Barcelona); el Museo de Los Sures (NYC); la Accademia di Belle Arti (Roma); Carpe Díem. Arte e Pesquisa (Lisbon); ICI (NYC); The Boston Center for the Arts (Boston); Anthology Films Archives (NYC); Artist Space (NYC); La Casa Encendida (Madrid); Center for Contemporary Arts (Santa Fe); AC Institute (NYC); NurtureArt (NYC); Mass Moca (Massachusets); Slowtrack (Madrid); Vacío 9 (Madrid); Antonio de Barnola (Barcelona); Video Guerrilha, Urban Space Projections (Sao Paolo); Le Cube (Rabat) or UCCA (Beijing).
In 2013 she completed her first permanent public art installation commissioned by the MTA Arts for Transit & Urban Design for three subway stations in New York City.
Laura F. Gibellini’s first book “Construyendo un Lugar /Constructing a Place” was published by Complutense University of Madrid in 2012 and the second, “Atmospheric Meditations. Before Present” (338 U-710 U) by Nocapaper Books & More and Slowtrack (Madrid ) in 2016 and by Publication Studio (Hudson) in 2017.
Her writings have appeared in international journals such as Drawing: Research, Theory & Practice (Intellect Books, UK, 2017); MaHKUscript: Journal of Fine Art Research (Ubiquity Press, London, 2016); Int|AR:Interventions + Adaptative Reuse (Rhode Island School of Design, US, 2015); Quintana (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, 2013) or The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR, 2011).
