Manuel Santos Maia
Manuel Santos Maia, born in Nampula, Mozambique in 1970, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Porto, Portugal. He holds a degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from the University of Porto and pursued PhD studies in “Modes of Knowledge in Contemporary Artistic Practice” at Vigo University.
Since 1999, Maia has exhibited his work, exploring installation, photography, painting, video, performance, theater, and sound. His work addresses themes such as identity, memory, and history, and has been presented internationally in countries including the U.S., England, France, Germany, Austria, Brazil, and more.
In Portugal, he has exhibited across numerous cities, including Porto, Lisbon, Coimbra, Faro, Guimarães, and others, becoming a significant figure in the national art scene. Maia’s works are held in institutional and private collections, such as the Portuguese State, the Museum of Neo-Realism, the University of Porto, and the Zé dos Bois Gallery.
His multidisciplinary practice continues to explore the intersections of art and contemporary life, engaging both local and global audiences.
