In residence at Le Cube during the month of April, the Turkish artist Murat Germen prepares a documentation project about independent art spaces and initiatives in Morocco.
The first part of this inventory consisting of photographs, portraits and interviews will be presented as work in progress during an evening at Le Cube.
The evening will be accompanied by a new series of photographs entitled En train de…, taken during his stay in Morocco.
About the artist
Murat Germen is an artist who uses photography as a tool for expression and research. Currently, he lives and works between Istanbul and London. He has got his master degree in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he went as a Fulbright researcher, and has won the gold medal of l’AIA Henry Adams for academic excellence.
Murat Germen works as a professor of art, photography and new media in the University Sabanci of Istanbul.
His projects are focused on urbanization and gentrification, civil rights and participative citizenship, the documentary sustainability of local cultures, and the human devastation of nature. He has published numerous articles and series of photography and architecture, art and new media in diverse publications. Moreover, he has given lectures on the tension of international conferences. Germen has also participated in more than eighty solo and group exhibitions in Turkey, USA, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Mexico, Portugal, Uzbekistan, Greece, Japan, Russia, Poland, Iran, India, France, Canada, Bahrain, South Korea, Dubai, China, Sweden, Switzerland, Egypt.
