During their stay in Rabat, Marie Ouazzani and Nicolas Carrier work at Le Cube to carry out their project Red Eyes Palms. This artistic work draws inspiration from pterygium, an eye condition, and weaves connections between the fragility of palm trees, visual disorders, and the challenges of climate change.
During their residency, the artists complete a video filmed in the palm grove of Marrakech and produce a photographic series exploring the importance of palm trees in traditional Moroccan architecture, as well as their crucial role in water preservation, an essential resource in the region.
At the end of their residency, Ouazzani Carrier will present a selection of their latest videos, created in France, Réunion Island, China, and Morocco. Inspired by the life cycles of plants, these works invite a contemplative reflection on disruptions to our ecosystems and imagine new ways of inhabiting them.
The screening evening will include the premiere of عين جافة (Ain Jaffa/Dry Eye), filmed in the Marrakech palm grove and completed during their residency.
The residence is supported by the Institut Français du Maroc.
