This video night invites the artist Touda Bouanani to present a selection of her videos.
In this context, the artist shows Conte de la énième nuit (1993) that – while being right in the continuity of the oral and the literary tradition of the “Mille et une nuits” – proposes a self-portrait referring to the collection “Je me souviens” published by Georges Pérec in 1978.
She also presents Une histoire de poussière (1993) that describes the violence of the Gulf War, the impossibility of hearing voices and therefore the need to build new tools for dialogue.
As for Fictions (1997), she narrates the story of three women, and Poème d’amour à Naïma mixes excerpts from the collection of poems “Les Persiennes”(Editions Stouky, 1980), of erotic drawings and excerpts from the movie “Les Quatre sources”, all of them realized by Ahmed Bouanani.
The constancy in the video projects of Touda Bouanani is a reference to literary works: poems, collections, narratives, tales of known authors or of her close friends, from different eras and geographical areas. The collections are diverse, they transcend the frontiers and highlight complex thoughts where narratives meet, interact and bring about novel possibilities.
Touda Bouanani has always lived in the cinematic field, near her father, Ahmed Bouanani, who was a filmmaker and editor, and her mother, Naïma, costume-designer working in film production as well.
Graduate of the School of Fine Arts of Bordeaux in 1993, she has been focusing on the realization of videos since the beginning of her artistic career.
The screening is followed by an open discussion with the audience at place.
