The exhibition Un grain de sel dans la mer, by Nicole Schatt takes place after her residency at Le Cube – independent art room.
Un grain de sel dans la mer reunites the Streifendbilder series (striped pictures). The latter are small canvases which display motifs that are fashioned from family photographs and images found in news papers, incorporated into paintings.
These images of diverse origins are representative of memories; she weaves ties between them to suggest new stories that the spectator is invited to interpret according to their own experience.
Presented side by side, the striped pictures become the archive of private and public events. The archive represents a subjective vision of the world; a vision that is personal, but collective at the same time.
This project is a work in progress, currently composed of 250 paintings.
As part of her exhibition at Le Cube, Nicole Schatt also presents Le long de la rizière (along the rice field), a video installation that deals with the fusion of the self with the world.
