Georges Didi-Huberman
Born in 1953 in Saint-Étienne, Georges Didi-Huberman is a philosopher and art historian, lecturer, and Studies Director at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales. He is the recipient of prestigious awards.
Georges Didi-Huberman has published about thirty books on the history and theory of images, in a large study scope extending from the Renaissance to contemporary art. Through his research, he treats problems of scientific iconography in the XIXe century and their usage by artistic currents in the XXe century.
Georges Didi-Huberman is also a curator. He curated the Empreinte for le Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris, in 1997; Les Fables du lieu for the Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, in Tourcoing in 2001; Atlas at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, in 2010; and also Soulèvements at the Jeu de Paume in Paris, in 2016 and 2017.
He is also a member of the artistic council in the Centre Georges-Pompidou, the scientific council of the Prefiguration Mission at the Musée de l’Homme, des arts et des civilizations (Paris), Fellow of the Courtauld Institute of Art (London), honorary member of the Center for Literature and Cultural Studies in Berlin, and member of different editorial committees.
