Simohammed Fettaka is a multidisciplinary artist. He founded the Cinema Nachia festival, in Tangier, at the Cinémathèque de Tanger.
Simohammed Fettaka develops more of a global artistic practice embodied in a series of photographs, collages, installations, performances, as well as sound systems.
His personal interpretation of graphic representations is based on collective memory. The artist indeed seeks to question the political aesthetics and the construction of reality around iconic images. According to him, the individual visual experience must lead us to revisit the sens we make of ourselves.
Simohammed Fettaka has also produced a video for a cine-concert using visual archives, in collaboration with nine musicians from France and Morocco; a project that has been produced by the Moroccan Cinematography Center and the French Institute in Morocco. Entitled « Mystère de l’Ouest », this project has been presented in the main cities of Morocco.
The artist pursued a Master in « Experimentation program in Arts and Politics » under the direction of Bruno Latour at the Institute of political studies of Paris (Sciences Po). He also delivered a production for the public artistic command from Bordeaux, curated by Catherine David.
He participated in exhibitions in several museums and galleries on the European continent and in Morocco, like Le Centre George Pompidou (Paris), 21er Haus Musuem (Vienna), Muhka Antwerpen (Antwerp), Old Truman Brewery (London)… His works were acquired by the MUCEM Marseille (Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée), by the CNAP (Centre national des arts plastiques) Paris and by several private collectors.
Simohammed Fettaka took part in several residencies for international artists, La Cité des Arts in Paris, Villa Romana in Florence, Kherthiossane in Dakar, Transat in Tetouan, Quartier Am Hafen in Cologne.
