For the open studio, which concludes the residence hors les murs at Le Cube, Ziad Naitaddi presents the three parts of his photographic project Withered green, thrived red. This work deals with migration and identity through the prism of an inner and outer transformation.
In Prologue, the artist addresses the feeling of exile of the human soul as it goes through a journey of refractions and mutations throughout the migration process, between what exists and what will exist.
He then produces Epilogue, a project based on the reinterpretation of certain archives that Moroccans who emigrated to the USSR sent to the artist.
During his residency at Le Cube from January to June 2021, Ziad Naitaddi produces the third part, the video Interlude, for which he constructs a monotonous photographic narrative expressing the permanent evolution of a growing, truer and more solid identity.
“The heart of the exile feeling which the human soul feels while experiencing changes and variations during the long process of migration of what already exists and what can be expected. Working with the idea of in-betweenness and exploring poetics of longing and mutability by creating fictional sites and new emotional landscapes. Writing the assessment of a soul in transformation through a period occupied by a geographical, political, religious, and cultural displacements. How does operate this transfer of identity: from the native one to the adoption one? How does photography as a tool allows us to reveal this mutation?” (Ziad Naitaddi)
