For the 4th edition of the summer’s lab, Zainab Andalibe, a young graduate of the Ecole des Beaux Arts Montpellier, is invited during the month of August to carry on with her research and reflections, in order to develop her artistic approach.
During this residency, Zainab Andalibe wishes to question the current social and economic contexts through a careful collaboration with craftsmen. This period of work spent freely by the artist, as no final result is imposed, will be the opportunity for her to test new mediums and production modes.
The totality of the works developed by the artist are presented in an open studio at Le Cube – independent art room.
“Using the term of Paul Ardenne, my artistic approach is contextual. For me it is about finding a point of balance between an aesthetic research and a social context. My artworks can be seen as objects that openly incite to reflect: to reflect on a situation, a reality. It is ultimately up to the viewers to grasp the immediate meaning that the object gives them, so as to give them a personal polysemy in his own relation to the world.
By evoking a specific context, I question at the same time the relation the spectator has with that real fact.
It is about circumstances that are geographical and social at the same time. I conceive of art as being a language that can tap into these real factors. The work is a coexistence between the aesthetic form and the interrogation it conveys.”
